Careers in Schools
For those interested in a career in education, there are many routes available and it can become quite confusing! The Swaledale Alliance focuses on two main career paths:
Teaching Assistants
The Swaledale Alliance offers the nationally recognised NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning. This A-level equivalent qualification is aimed at those who would like to support children with their learning in a school setting. Through the sponsorship opportunity offered by the Swaledale Alliance, ‘real work’ placements are available in local schools giving an excellent insight into working within a school, close to where you live, whilst studying for this qualification.
Students who have completed this programme have gone on to employment within Alliance schools, some continuing to develop their careers and go on to complete a university degree to become a teacher.

Get Into Teaching
In partnership with Red Kite Teacher Training and Carmel Teacher Training Partnership, the Swaledale Alliance schools support Initial Teacher Training programmes across North Yorkshire. The ITT programme is aimed at those with a degree who would like to get into teaching. The network of placements enables the future teacher the opportunity to access placements in schools near to where they live. This is extremely useful for candidates from North Yorkshire with few local universities commuting can be a challenge.
On completion of the ITT programme and gaining ‘QTS’ qualified teacher status, delegates have gone onto secure roles with Swaledale Alliance schools enabling them to continue to work close to their homes and family. Some former students are now Headteachers in the local schools
